How does a jeweller resize a ring usually?
I have a white gold ring which is too large and apparently can be made up to 2 size smaller, which is what they told my bf when he purchased it. I remember once my mother had a ring which she had resized, when she got it back she was severely disapointed as they had just tacked on a little extra piece on the inside rim to make the circumference smaller/tighter. However another friend of mine had a ring which she had resized and they actually cut the ring and re-moulded it to the smaller size.
So what is the usual way, and should I ask for them to do it a specific way or just assume that the will do it by cutting and remoulding which is how I hope they will do it.

It depends on the structure of the ring.
A fancy setting, a high gallery, a design that runs around the outside of the ring, etc. all make it hard for the jeweler to cut apart the ring to resize it. I have a chevron shaped ring that is a little big, but other thanan insert, they can’t do much without warping the shape.

If it is a simple design though, you can have it done however you like.
The jeweler for your mom may also have been trying to avoid any questions about who gets the removed bits of gold

If I use a differnt chain that is probably 50% price (i’m not that rich), I think my gf will know (freak with jewellery) but she kinda understands my situations. Or should I just skip tiffany all together?

i think that charms are (one of) the best things about tiffany’s. i’m not very impressed about the limited options of their silver chains for their charms. if it was me, i’d hook my charm on three layers of thin silver (or maybe silver-and-gold-and-bronze) bracelets.

good luck! =)

bric a brac etc…? thank you!

Hi. While I don’t personally know the answer to that question, one good way to obtain the answer might be to post this question in French. I’ll help you.

Merci d’avance.

This is where I suggest you post that: http://fr.answers.yahoo.com/dir/index;_ylt=AkeWwls9RsC8kRVXl7fVIJg4TH1G;_ylv=3?link=list&sid=396546938

I want to buy a cleaning machine for my handmade jewellery. I need to get the jewellery shiny after it has been fired. Do i need to buy a tumbler or will an ultrasonic machine do the job? I live in the UK

Ultrasonic cleaners work brill for metal, but if you’re using semi precious stones you got to watch if they will fragment.

Definitely don’t put Opals near them or you’ll end with a pile of dust.

I use one i got from ALDI to clean my specs now and again, cost under 20 quid, also not bad on proper dvd’s & CD’s but knackers some recordable s

Bires de la Meuse, Alphonse Mucha Post Card

Vintage beer advertising poster, 1898 Alphonse Maria Mucha (24 July 1860 14 July 1939) was a Czech Art Nouveau painter and decorative artist. Mucha produced a flurry of paintings, posters, advertisements, and book illustrations, as well as designs for jewellery, carpets, wallpaper, and theatre sets in what was initially called the Mucha Style but became known as Art Nouveau. Mucha’s works frequently featured beautiful healthy young women in flowing vaguely Neoclassical looking robes, often surrounded by lush flowers which sometimes formed haloes behind the women’s heads. In contrast with contemporary poster makers he used paler pastel colors. The 1900 Universal Exhibition in Paris diffused the Mucha style internationally. He decorated the Bosnia and Herzegovina Pavilion and collaborated in the Austrian one. His Art Nouveau style was often imitated. However, this was a style that Mucha attempted to distance himself from throughout his life; he insisted always that, rather than adhering to any fashionable stylistic form, his paintings came purely from within and Czech art. He declared that art existed only to communicate a spiritual message, and nothing more; hence his frustration at the fame he gained through commercial art, when he wanted always to concentrate on more lofty projects that would ennoble art and his birthplace.
